Start to Trek

Canceled

Would you like to learn the skills and gain the confidence to go trekking on your own or with friends?

Then you've come to the right place!

Start to Trek is an experience for hikers who would like to experience their first multi-day hike and learn the skills to go on an adventure on their own.

Get to know other hikers at our warm-up event and prepare yourself through the practical workshop given in the forest by Wouter.

1 month later, we head out together for a 3-day hike through the Dijle valley and the Meerdaal forest, each time camping in bivouac areas in the forest.

What to expect ?

The Start to Trek experience consists of 2 events.

On the 17th of June our Warm-up event will take place in Heverleebos. Get to know the other hikers with whom you will embark on this adventure, test your hiking boots and gain knowledge at the practical workshop given in the middle of the forest. The workshop will be given by Wouter Vorsters (@noplacelikeoutside), experienced adventurer with a backpack full of trekking experience, even in very remote places. Inspiration, good advice and useful tips guaranteed! And in true 'Step Out style', fresh pastries and a drink will not be missing here!

Believe me after this day you can't wait to set off on a trek.

From the 21st - 23rd of July we will make your first multi-day trek together. We will hike in 3 days from Gastuche, just across the language border, to Heverlee. Discover the most beautiful paths in the Dyle valley and the Meerdaal forest, push your limits and arrive at the bivouac area tired but satisfied. Become familiar with cooking on a gas fire, pitch your tent in the forest and enjoy sleeping under a starry sky. We will trek around for 3 days, sleep at 2 different bivouac zones and will hike an average of 10-15km per day.

  • Meals (dinner on Friday and Saturday, lunch on Saturday, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday).
  • Camping equipment rental (Tent, trekking backpack, sleeping mat & sleeping bag, carefully chosen by us for a good balance between comfort and weight).
  • 3 guided walks through the Dijle Valley (just across the language border), Meerdaalwoud, the Doode Bemde and the Heverlee Forest.
  • 2 overnight stays in bivouac areas
  • Guidance throughout the weekend by Febe & Prithwiraj. Problems with your rucksack, need help setting up your tent, learn how to cook something on a gas fire? We are there for you throughout the weekend!
  • Campfire on Saturday evening with hot drinks and a tasty snack
  • Yoga session for those interested on Sunday morning
  • Train tickets ( from Leuven or Heverlee station to Gastuche station)

If you have your own camping equipment (incl. tent, trekking backpack, sleeping mat and sleeping bag) you can participate for 175 euros.

NOTE; Please make sure that your camping equipment is 'portable', as you need to be able to trek for 3 days with your gear. A 4.5 kg tent, for example, is not a good idea here.
